Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
unclenchdental.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard. We continue to audit and improve.
What we've built in
- Semantic HTML structure — proper landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), heading hierarchy, lists, and articles for screen reader navigation.
- Skip-to-main-content link — keyboard users can bypass navigation on every page.
- Visible keyboard focus indicators — all interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields) display a clear focus outline when navigated by keyboard.
- Reduced-motion support — animations (rocking tooth mascot, marquees, gradient pulses) automatically pause for users who set
prefers-reduced-motionin their operating system. - Form labels and ARIA attributes — every form input has a programmatically associated label, required fields are marked with
aria-required, and form submission feedback usesaria-liveregions for assistive technology. - Alt text and decorative-image handling — meaningful images have descriptive alt text; purely decorative images (the tooth mascot, gradient blobs) are marked
aria-hiddenso screen readers skip them. - Color contrast — body text targets WCAG AA (4.5:1) contrast ratio against background.
- Resizable text — content remains usable up to 200% browser zoom.
- Mobile-friendly responsive layout — adapts to small screens without horizontal scrolling.
- Service-area map with accessible alternatives — the SVG map includes
<title>and<desc>for screen readers. - Page language declared —
lang="en"on the HTML root.
In-person accommodations
Because unclench dental is a mobile concierge practice, we are uniquely able to accommodate accessibility needs at the site of care. We can adjust:
- Visit location (home rather than office, ground floor, accessible building entry)
- Visit duration (extended consultation time as needed)
- Communication format (large-print intake forms, written follow-up summaries, sign language interpretation by request)
- Sensory environment (lighting, noise, scents)
Accommodation requests should be made at the time of inquiry or scheduling so we can prepare appropriately. There is no charge for reasonable accommodations.
Standards we reference
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — Title III, applicable to places of public accommodation including healthcare practices.
- California Unruh Civil Rights Act — Civil Code §51 et seq., providing additional protection beyond the ADA for California residents.
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA — Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C.
- Section 508 (where applicable to federally connected services).
Known limitations
Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations include:
- Third-party embedded content (e.g., scheduling, telehealth platforms) is governed by the accessibility of those vendors. We select Business Associates with strong accessibility practices but do not control their UI directly.
- Decorative animations on the home page (gradient blooms, ticker strip) are visually rich; users who prefer reduced motion are automatically served a static version.
- The service-area SVG map is supplemented by a text list of cities served — both are provided so the information is accessible regardless of how a user prefers to consume it.
Report an accessibility issue
If you encounter content on this site that is not accessible to you, or if you need any information in an alternative format, please contact us. We aim to respond to accessibility inquiries within two business days.
You also have the right to file a formal complaint under the ADA with the U.S. Department of Justice (Civil Rights Division), or under the Unruh Act through the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing.
Ongoing review
We review the accessibility of unclenchdental.com on an ongoing basis as content and features change. Significant accessibility improvements are noted in our changelog. This statement is updated when our conformance status changes or when we adopt new standards.
